Student Opportunities
- Undergraduate
Students are encourage to apply for the Maryland Sea Grant College Undergraduate Research Experience in Estuarine Processes (7www.mdsg.umd.edu/Education/REU/). This summer internship provides students with an opportunity to conduct an individual research project at Horn Point. Past students under my direction have worked in the Corsica River, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and Maryland’s Coastal Bays.
- Graduate
Interested graduate students are encouraged to contact me directly to discuss research interests. Students play an integral role in an active research program and have much flexibility in designing their course curriculum and research projects. Graduate students at Horn Point are enrolled through the MEES (Marine, Estuarine, and Environmental Science) program at the University of Maryland, College Park, but perform the majority of their research at Horn Point. Information on the MEES program can be found at www.mees.umd.edu, including information on courses, areas of specialization, and application requirements. Information for prospective students at Horn Point is available at http://www.hpl.umces.edu/education/education.html. Students are typically supported by research grants, although limiting teaching assitantships are available. Support for exceptional students is available from Horn Point or other fellowships.
